Коли далекого вже 1896 року славетний археолог Вікентій Хвойка відкрив перші пам’ятки Трипільської культури на території нинішнього Обухівського району Київщини, ніхто ще й гадки не мав, що через три роки тут, у колисці земної цивілізації, народиться видатний український письменник Григорій Косинка. Це сталося в селі Щербанівці, в родині простого землероба Михайла Стрільця (Косинка — літературний псевдонім прозаїка). А ще через майже два десятиліття над Невою прогримить залп «Аврори» й возвістить настання нової ери — ери червоного більшовицького диявола, якому спаде на думку зруйнувати світ «до основанья» (принаймні — на одній шостій його частині) з буцімто благородною метою побудови «найсправедливішого» за всю історію людства суспільного устрою з назвою комунізм.
Чим скінчилася більшовицька авантюра, нині достеменно відомо: ідея комунізму знайшла своє законне місце на історичному смітнику. Проте її революційні втілювачі встигли понівечити долі десяткам народів і мільйонам людей. Під нищівний терор червоного диявола втрапив і український патріот, блискучий новеліст Григорій Косинка. У 35-річному віці його навіки загребла кістлява рука енкаведе, а твори письменника та його ім’я надовго були заборонені тоталітарною комуністичною системою.
Проте земля Трипільської культури й далі народжувала талановитих, національно свідомих людей. 1974 року один з них — молодий скульптор Михайло Горловий, уродженець тієї ж таки Щербанівки — зініціював звернення громади села до Спілки художників про виготовлення якщо не пам’ятника, то бодай погруддя своєму славетному землякові, розстріляному сталінщиною. Цією ідеєю перейнялася всесвітньовідома Галина Кальченко — автор таких скульптурних шедеврів, як, зокрема, пам’ятники Марії Заньковецькій, Лесі Українці та Іванові Котляревському в Києві, Семенові Гулаку-Артемовському в Городищі на Черкащині. І вже через кілька місяців погруддя Г.Косинки було відлито у бронзі. Проте встановити його на визначеному громадою Щербанівки місці вдалося аж 1979 року — до 80-річчя від дня народження письменника-земляка.
Відтоді минуло майже три десятиліття. І ось на початку липня чиясь варварська рука вчинила акт вандалізму: бронзове погруддя зникло. Найімовірніше, воно стало жертвою покидьків, які «промишляють» здаванням на приймальні пункти кольорового металу; з чиєїсь волі (хто дослідить, із чиєї саме?!) у нас таких пунктів розвелося, як грибів після дощу. І держава вдає, ніби так і треба. А те, що під руку варвара потрапляють пам’ятки нашої історії та культури, геть нікого з владців не бентежить. Влада взагалі поводить себе дивно (аби не сказати «дико»). Скільки актів глуму вчинено над національними святинями вже у незалежній Україні! Спалено найперші дерев’яні хрести над могилами перепохованих на Байковому цвинтарі Стуса, Литвина й Тихого, осквернено Шевченків меморіал на його батьківщині, зруйновано пам’ятник Степанові Бандері в його рідному селі на Івано-Франківщині, пограбовано хату Марії Приймаченко в селі Болотня на Київщині й викрадено унікальні картини художниці…
